Passengers stage protest after cruise ship diverted due to bad weather
Over 2,000 passengers were on the cruise when the severe weather occurred.
Passengers on a cruise ship called Norwegian Spirit staged protests after several destinations were cancelled due to severe weather.
The cruise left from Southampton, England on September 27 and embarked on a 14-day trip that was supposed to include stops in Amsterdam, France, Iceland, and Scotland.
Several planned destinations were cancelled after powerful wind gusts, large waves and remnants from Hurricane Lorenzo prevented the cruise from safely reaching the destinations.
Passengers said that the severe weather conditions caused them to be stuck at sea for three days and many have taken to social media to express their frustrations.
Photos and videos show the grim conditions with frustrated passengers, sewage system complications and toilets that could not flush.
Over 2,000 were on board the cruise and the New York Times reports that the ship finally docked in Southhampton on Friday.
A representative for Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement that the itinerary was changed because of severe weather conditions and asked for patience "since the cruise line cannot control, influence or remediate the weather."
