Carnival Cruise Line Stops Serving Plastic Straws (Unless Asked)

Carnival Cruise Line line will no longer automatically serve a plastic straw when a drink is ordered on all of their 26 cruise ships.

Carnival Cruise Line will no longer issues plastic straws when drinks are ordered unless they are requested.

The announcement was made by Carnival’s Brand Ambassador John Heald.  He posted the following message on Facebook regarding the use of plastic straws on the cruise line’s ships:

“We will no longer automatically serve any soda or cocktail (except frozen) with a plastic straw. They will be provided by request. If you want one, please ask. Please support our efforts to limit the amount of plastic that can be found in the seas today.”

This change was made due to many of the plastic straws being blow into the ocean.  Several months ago, Royal Caribbean also stated plans to remove all plastic straws from their cruise ships.  They are currently working on eliminating all “single-use” plastic on all of their cruise brands.

“Let’s be honest and shout out loud that the pollution of the earth and seas we sail and the use of disposable plastic is shameful.

It is, however, reversible.

Plastic waste dumped on land and in rivers is finding its way into the world’s oceans so fast and in such quantities that by one estimate I read today there will be more waste than fish in the sea, by weight, by the middle of the century.

Did you know that if you lined up the 500 million straws used and discarded each day just in the U.S. alone, you would be able to wrap them around the globe 2.5 times! Incredible isn’t it

And my I ask this. Why does anyone over the age of 3 ( or in physical need of one) actually need a straw to drink with?

So this is what Carnival Cruise Line is proudly going to do. We will no longer automatically serve any soda or cocktail (except frozen) with a plastic straw. They will be provided by request. If you want one, please ask. Please support our efforts to limit the amount of plastic that can be found in the seas today.

I hope I can count on all of you reading this to support Carnival. We will be doing more over time to limit the use of single use plastic products onboard our ships.

Cheers

PLEASE SHARE THIS WITH ONE PERSON IF YOU SUPPORT CARNIVAL AND ME ON THIS.”

  1. It will take much more time to get a drink on Carnival, as A LOT of people will have to ask for a straw.
Here’s a clue, why not use paper straws – like zoos do!?

    • This is not a resolution, because after all, anyway people will throw them to the seas. Their stupid explanation will be as follows: “paper is recyclable”
You want fast service? There should not be any option to provide straws, even if somebody will ask for it. If people do not know how to behave and protect the world, so let’s stop with all plastics on board.

  2. I have no problem no using a straw as long as I am not using glasses that strangers have drank from. If they are single use glasses then I dont need a straw but I have gotten glasses on many occasions in restaurants that I sent back for appearing dirty.
