Carnival Cancels 4 Months of Cruises So Ship Can Be Chartered By FEMA

Carnival Cruise Line has canceled the next four months of sailings on one of their cruise ships so the ship can be chartered by FEMA to support relief efforts in the Caribbean.

The cruise line posted the following statement regarding the cancellations:

“Earlier this week, we communicated that we were ready to resume our operation from San Juan on Carnival Fascination, with our first cruise departing this Sunday. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has since asked us to support the relief and rebuilding efforts and Carnival Fascination has been chartered to provide housing for relief workers in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This means the ship’s departures from October 15, 2017 through January 28, 2018 will be cancelled. Carnival Fascination will return to year-round service from San Juan beginning February 18, 2018.

  1. Blah….that is of little consolation to those of us that have been planning our trip a year and a half in advance.
How much did the feds give you to steal the ship out from under us?

  2. Make no mistake, this has zero to do with helping the victims of the hurricanes. It must have been a sweet deal for Carnival if they can afford to extend a 100% cruise credit to those who rebook by mid November, along with refunding for the cruise. Sucks to be all those people who had their hearts set on their vacation and followed the rules. Integrity is a made up word and money still talks; we probably don’t even want to know how much FEMA spent of our tax dollars to make this happen at the last minute (refer to 2005 Carnival/FEMA charter), not to mention the huge tax breaks Carnival gets anyway because they “don’t operate in the US.” This is sickening, but judgment and justice will someday prevail. (“I am very cautious of people whose actions don’t match their words.”)
