REPORTS THE SHIPS, ALTHOUGH NOT MAKING CRUISES, ARE ALSO NOT EXACTLY IDLE, AND COLLECTIVELY HAVE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ABOAR DAN: OFFSHORE OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, JUST OUTSIDE PORT CANAVERAL, FOUR BIG CRUISE SHIPS SIT MOTIONLESS TODAY. THEY APPEAR TO BE RIDING AT ANCHOR. AND THEY’RE NOT EMPTY THE CRUISE SHIPS HAVE NO PASSENGERS BUT HAVE A CREW OF ABOUT 1000 EACH. THEY LIVE ON THE SHIPS. THEY ARE NOT U.S. CITIZENS AND CANNOT GO ON SHORE FOR VERY LONG. THE COAST GUARD REPORTS A 43-YEAR-OLD MAN ON ONE OF THE SHIPS, THE DISNEY FANTASY, HAD A HEART ATTACK THIS MORNING. A COAST GUARD VESSEL BROUGHT THE MAN INTO PORT CANAVERAL. AN AMBULANCE TOOK HIM TO A HOSPITAL. THERE ARE NO AVAILABLE REPORTS OF ANYONE WITH CORONAVIRUS ABOARD THE LOCAL SHIPS. AND THE CRUISE LINES ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO KEEP THE DISEASE FROM RAVAGING THE CREWMEMBERS WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO GO HOME. SOME SHIPS ARE TRAVELING TO THE BAHAMAS TO ALLOW THE CREWMEMBERS SOME OCCASIONAL SHORE LEAVE. THEY RETURN TO PORT CANAVERAL FOR SUPPLIES WITH UP TO NINE CRUISE SHIPS USING THE PORT WHILE THE CRUISE BUSINESS IS ON HOLD. >> THEY HAVE BEEN ROTATING THEM. ONE OUT, ONE IN, TAKING TURNS. A crew member aboard a Disney cruise ship anchored near Cape Canaveral was rescued on Wednesday by the Coast Guard. Coast Guard officials said a 43-year old man on the Disney Fantasy had a heart attack Wednesday morning. A Coast Guard vessel brought the man into Port Canaveral and an ambulance took him to a hospital. Major cruise lines suspend sailings amid coronavirus concernsThe ships often have crews of more than 1,000, and they often live aboard the ship. Some of them cannot go onshore much because they’re not U.S. citizens.There are no reports of anyone with coronavirus aboard any of the ships currently anchored off the Port Canaveral coast, and the cruise lines are doing everything they can to keep the disease from ravaging the crews on board.
