Cruise Ship Cut in Half and Lengthened

This past weekend, Silversea Cruises cut one of their cruise ships in half so the ship could be lengthened.  This allowed the cruise line to add new cabins and public spaces.

Silver Spirit was cut in half this past weekend at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo.  A new 49 foot long section was added in the middle which saw an addition of 34 new luxury suites.   The cruise line posted the following video on YouTube giving us a unique look at this special event.

Over 500 skilled workers will spend approximately 450,000 man hours completing the ambitious project, which is due to conclude on May 5, 2018, and will see Silver Spirit lengthened to 210.7m (691.3 ft.).
