Disney Wonder received the most accolades from the annual Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice Awards although Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy also fared well.

The 8th annual awards were revealed Tuesday from the popular web site cruisecritic.com, and are based on the past 12 months of consumer reviews posted to the site.

Disney Cruise Line has four ships and Disney Wonder fared best in the mid-size cruise ship category, coming in at No. 2 overall behind Oceania Riviera.

“The Wonder has an awesome crew that provided us with the usual outstanding service,” reads a review from one member. “The food was excellent. We would highly recommend the Wonder and plan to see her again for spring break next year!”

Disney Wonder got top billing in the mid-size category of entertainment, most notably for its marquee “Frozen” musical. It also ranked second in both the cabins and public spaces categories, fifth for dining and service categories, seventh for embarkation and 10th for value.

Also, in the Best Cruises for Families category, Wonder came in ninth, but that is not broken down by ship size and two other ships in the fleet fared better. While that category was won by Carnival Breeze, newer and bigger Disney Cruise Line ship Disney Fantasy came in No. 2 and sister ship Disney Dream came in No. 6.

Also in the Best Cruises for First Timers category, which is also not broken down by ship size, Disney Dream came in at No. 6. Disney Dream sails the shorter 3- and 4-night cruises from Port Canaveral while Disney Fantasy sails seven-night itineraries year-round from the port.

Disney Dream did land in some of the other categories for large-size cruise ships including a No. 8 ranking in the overall category as well as third for entertainment with its new “Beauty and the Beast” stage show among other options. It also received fifth for cabins and ninth for the service, dining and embarkation categories. The Celebrity Equinox received the top ranking for Best Overall in the large ship category.

Disney Dream had actually won the Best Overall category for three years in a row.

The fleet’s oldest ship Disney Magic, which was No. 1 overall in the mid-size category in the 2017 awards, did not rank in any categories.

“Disney Magic does continue to receive positive reviews from cruisers, but for this year’s awards it just didn’t meet the minimum qualifiers to be considered in any of the size-specific categories,” said Colleen McDaniel, Senior Executive Editor of Cruise Critic. She did say, though, that it was eligible for the Best Cruises for Families category, although it didn’t place in the Top 10.

Disney Wonder, which debuted in 1999, sails the Caribbean from a variety of ports including Port Canaveral, Miami and Galveston while spending summer in Alaska and the West Coast. Disney Magic, which debuted in 1998, also sails winter from either Port Canaveral, Miami or Galveston and spends its summers in Europe.

Disney Dream, which debuted in 2011 and sister ship Disney Fantasy, which debuted in 2012, sail from Port Canaveral year-round.

Disney Cruise Line has plans to grow its fleet by three ships, although construction has yet to begin and none of them have been named yet. They are slated to begin sailing in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Not much detail has been revealed about any of the three new ships other than at 135,000 gross tons, they will be slightly larger than the 130,000 gross tons of Dream and Fantasy, but are expected to have the same number of staterooms: 1,250.
