Norwegian Cruise Line will be closing their private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay, for the next two months so improvements can be made to the island Travel Weekly is reporting.
Great Stirrup Cay will be closed from August 25, 2016 to October 20, 2016 so the Bahamian island can undergo extensive renovations. In June, Norwegian unveiled new experiences that will be added on the island. They include a 1,000 zip line, a half mile oceanside boardwalk, a lagoon retreat that will open in 2017, and new dining and bar venues that will add 50% more seating capacity.
This temporary closure is part of Norwegian Edge, a $400 million investment that the cruise line is making to improve not only their cruise ships, but also Great Stirrup Cay. Norwegian is focusing on the top and bottom details of the passenger’s experience at Great Stirrup Cay.
Norwegian Cruise Line purchased Great Stirrup Cay in 1977 and was the first cruise line to own and operate a private island in the Bahamas for their guests.
